Jane Iredale Vs. MAC

I don’t know if you guys remember but a while back I had purchased and posted the #135 brush from MAC cosmetics. I had bought the brush because 2 of my favorite Youtubers were raving about it. Anyway, I never really loved it the way they did. BUT recently I did find a brush very similar to the MAC 135 brush but one that I actually love WAY MORE. It is the Chisel Powder brush by Jane Iredale:
image
Here they are side by side. You can see the shape is identical, but the difference is the density of the bristles, the size, and how much more tightly they are packed in the Jane Iredale Chisel Powder brush. I use this brush to apply bronzer.
image
I like the Jane Iredale Chisel brush more because I have more control over the application of the product. Whereas with the MAC 135 brush I would not get a precise application, and the product would just go everywhere. If I am doing an everyday look and all I want is some color on my face, kinda all over, I don’t mind using the MAC 135, but if I am spending my time on my make-up (to go out) and I want a perfect and precise application of bronzer then I definitely will go with the Jane Chisel Powder Brush.

Anyut

I wonder what you would think about elf brushes…not sure if you’ve tried them or not but the brushes with the black handles are really good imo especially for the price. Would love your feedback on them

You know I have always seen them at Ulta but never got one. It never appealed to me. Maybe I should look into them. Is there a specific one that you like?

      Hi Yeidy,

I love Sigma brushes I definitely recommend you get some of them. Morphe is whatever, but I will def post how I feel about Zoeva. I loved the Rose Gold brushes too but everything I clicked on was sold out, and since I wanted my brushes fast I just got everything in the regular blk handles. Thank you! I am very very excited about my pregnancy as well. I don’t enjoy being pregnant lol but I can’t wait until the baby comes. I am having a girl! Xo

Product Review

Hey Guys,

I am ready to review the hakuho-do + Sephora Pro Brush Collection.  Here are the 3 brushes I purchased about 2 weeks ago and have used them almost every day since in order to review them:

This one is the large teardrop pointed powder brush. I didn’t like the hair of the brushes at all. If you guys have used Hakuh0-du Brushes before, you will see the huge difference. The bristles felt synthetic and didn’t disperse my product evenly, whether it was bronzer I was applying or powder. I didn’t like the application at all.
image
So this one is the wedge sloping powder brush. I loved how it was wedged at the tip to really press in my powder, but I didn’t like how long and loose the bristles were, especially for loose powder application. As you guys have read in the past my 2 favorite brushes for loose powder application which I have been using for years are the Laura Mercier Face Brush, and the Bdellium Tools Studio 993. These brushes have short bristles which don’t allow too much movement. Making it more dense and giving me better coverage with loose powder. I also didn’t like the texture of the hair as I mentioned before. So even though the tip was slanted, which I liked, I didn’t get to press in my powder cause of how much the hairs moved.
image
Did you guys notice that my photos have a little more lighting to it?! After 1 year and 5 months of remodeling I have FINALLY moved back into my house!!! We had been living out of our pool house all this time -__-. Anyway I am hoping for better lighting and brighter photos from here on forward lol.

Moving on to the next brush… which is the small teardrop pointed highlighter brush. Once again didn’t like it. I bought this brush for the purpose of setting my under eye concealer or for highlight application. The bristles were not soft enough and once again felt synthetic. I have a few brushes with this shape, one specifically cost me 9 dollars by Stilazzi #S133, which I LOVE. The bristles move better an are much softer, giving my a more airbrush application.
image
All-in-all I am very disappointed in this collaboration. Till next time. 🙂

XoXo,
Anyut

Hakuho-do Meets Sephora

I have always been a huge fan of Hakuho-do brushes, so you can imagine my happiness when I walked into sephora a few days ago to see the collaboration of Sephora + Hakuho-do. There was a total of 6 brushes I believe and I picked up 3. I cant wait to use them and tell you guys all about it. Oh and the price point was amazing compared to the actual price point of a Hakuho-do brush. Check out the ones I bought:

These are both great! I can’t seem to find that one amazing brow brush that I had bought at the IMATS and lost in Vegas lol. But after buying and trying many brushes I so far really like these two. I’m sure you will find these in NYC!

Hey I know this question doesn’t pertain to this exact post, but I wanted to ask you here since this was the most recent and I wanted to be sure you saw it.

In all your pictures your skin looks amazing and I know you have already recommended a bunch of foundations but I was wondering about your application process. What’s your favorite primer? Do you use a beauty blender, kabuki brush, fingertips? And from your posts I gather you always follow with Youngblood powder, correct?

Btw great blog with helpful tips and entertaining commentary, don’t let the chuzoxner let you feel unappreciated 🙂

      Hi Sara,

Thank you, so my favorite primer right now is by heir atelier, I moistirizer, wait 2 mins apply primer with my fingers, wait 2 mins then using my sigma f84 or 3D kabuki brush I apply my foundation. I’ll put 2 pumps on the back of my hand and then using the brush pick up some products and apply. Then I’ll apply concealer under my eyes and again using that same brush I’ll blend that in.

Another question please help me with.. I got the YSL ink foundation and I loved it thanks to you xx but I had a little problem applying it.. I used a beauty blender and it absorbed most of the liquid :/ what do you recommend applying it with?
The YSL sales lady swore by their brush for this foundation and for once I had the will to say no lol .. I wanted to know what you use xx thanksss

Overdue…

Good Morning Everyone,

I am sooo behind on my posts. Over the past few weeks I have bought and used so many different products but don’t I have any time to post them. Between nursing school, scheduling study time, spending time with my family, working out, and juggling a social life, I have no free time to concentrate on my blog.

Anyway I had bought these Elaina Badro brushes from Naimies. And I really love them!

This one is the blush brush, super soft loving it. Picks up amazing pigment!
image
And this is the famous duo fiber brush that you can use with liquids and powders. I use this one to blend out my contour lines.
image
Definitely check these out you guys. They also sell them at Frends Beauty right when you walk in. For the rest of you who don’t live in these areas, you can shop online at her direct website at www.elainabadro.com

Boredom Strikes!

Good Morning everyone,

I woke up at 7 this morning and had nothing to do. So…I decided to wash all my brushes…my hands are pruned.

image

I used to wash my brushs with Palmolive or Dawn. Back in 08′ when I met Laura Mercier, she told me the best thing to wash brushes with are dishwashing detergents because they cut the oils and dirt from the bristles. I had been doing that until last year when I went to the IMATS and bought an amazing brush cleanser from Hakuhodo. I just finished what was left of it this morning.

image

When washing your brushes don’t wet the wooden handles. It will eventually fall off because the moisture will cause the glue to detach from the wood. After washing them lay them flat on a paper towel or hand towel to dry.

Anyuta
